Whatsapp is a very commonly used app among smartphone users. It’s being used for both personal and professional matters. Meta, the mother company of whatsapp as well as other socialmedia giants like Instagram and Facebook, keeps on coming up with updates that makes the these more user friendly. One problem that the user faced for the longest was regarding the number of devices that a single account can be logged into. Many a time one account has to be used by a number of users especially when it is a business account.
The latest update solves this issue. Now a single account can be logged into upto four devices. It will be possible to send and receive messages in the connected devices even if the primary device does not have an active internet connection. The new messages that are sent or received will be instantly updated on all four devices simultaneously. Whatsapp already had a feature where you can open a whatsapp account on a device even without a sim card. But the account on the origin device would be freezed when doing so. But with the latest update the four accounts will be simultaneously active. While the official feature will be launched only in some countries, the beta version of the new update will be launched everywhere for testers to use.
To start using the whatsapp account in another smartphone first you will have to open the window for linking devices in the second smartphone. This will generate a QR code. Now you will have to open the linked device window from the whatsapp main menu of the first smartphone in which the sim is being inserted. This will open a QR code scanner and scan the QR code generated in the second smartphone. This will activate the whatsapp account in the second smartphone too. This process can be done in upto four devices.
Not only will the whatsapp account will be active in all those four accounts, all four devices can send and receive the messages at the same time. You can view the connected devices in the linked devices menu and will be able to remove a connected device at any point of time. Users must note that the Whatsapp devices linked to their phones will automatically get disconnected if they fail to use their primary device or phones for over 14 days.
Though you can send and receive texts and media without the primary device needing to be connected there are some actions that are not possible while using the multi-device support feature.
These include:
- Pinning the chats while using WhatsApp Web or Desktop.
- Calling from Portal or WhatsApp Desktop to linked devices that aren’t enrolled in the multi-device beta.
- Other WhatsApp accounts on your Portal won’t work unless those accounts have joined the multi-device beta.
- WhatsApp Business users can’t edit their business name or labels from WhatsApp Web or Desktop.
- Joining, viewing, and resetting group invites from WhatsApp Web and Desktop. You’ll need to use your phone instead.
- Messaging or calling someone who is using a very old version of WhatsApp on their phone won’t work from your linked device.
- Viewing live location on companion devices.
